Rhinoplasty (Nose Jobs)

Commonly known as “nose jobs,” rhinoplasty can reshape your nose to improve appearance by making your nose more proportional to the rest of your facial features. The size of the nasal bridge, width of the nose, size of the nostrils, or shape of the tip of the nose can be altered to find the ideal proportions you’re looking for. Beyond shape alterations, rhinoplasty can also be used to effectively treat breathing problems.

Rhinoplasty is an outpatient surgery that takes about one to two hours, allowing patients to return home the same day. There are two different types of this procedure, open or closed. Open rhinoplasty involves a small incision inside of the nose, whereas closed rhinoplasty uses incisions made entirely within the inside of the nose which can lead to a reduced risk of swelling and bruising.

It’s expected to experience some puffiness in the face and potentially a headache after the procedure. Generally, bruising around your eyes and cheeks is most apparent during the first three days following surgery. Most of the swelling should disappear two to three weeks after surgery but you may not see the final results of the surgery for a year or more. You can reduce any post-operation risk of complication by closely following your surgeon’s instructions for when to begin work, exercises and normal activities. You will also need to schedule follow-ups with your surgeon to check the progress of your recovery.
